
Joanna Kakissis was born in Athens, Greece and grew up in North and South Dakota in the United States. She has reported from Europe and the United States as well as Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
Joanna reports for National Public Radio and TIME Magazine from her base in Athens and also writes for Foreign Policy. Her work has also appeared in The New York Times, The Financial Times Magazine, PRI's The World, Marketplace and McClatchy Newspapers. She was previously a staff writer at The News & Observer in Raleigh, North Carolina (USA).
She has received several writing awards and journalism fellowships, most recently the 2011 Knight-Luce Fellowship in Global Religion Reporting.
